Are you looking for a rupture disk device (bursting disc) to protect your low-pressure equipment or to ensure that the pressure in your installation does not exceed 0.5 barg so that the European Pressure Equipment Directive (2014/68/EU) does not apply?

Have you considered the additional benefits of the BS&B STA-SAF® range of reverse buckling disks which include high operating ratio, compression loading, increased cycle life and vacuum resistance. BS&B has expanded the capabilities of the STA-SAF system for low burst pressure applications.

BS&B’s STA-SAF® range is our well-known series of metallic reverse buckling rupture disks paired with pre-torqued safety heads that secure the rupture disk to the holder before connection to the piping system, protecting the rupture disk as well as optimizing its performance. We are delighted to announce the extension of this range with the LSR™ and RC™ series low-pressure disks.

These two new products provide BS&B’s customers with an all-metal rupture disk (bursting disk) application solution down to burst pressures of 0.05 barg / 0.7 psig

 

The LSR™ Series Low-Pressure Disk

For nominal piping sizes up to DN150 (6”), the new patent pending LSR™ disk will be your preferred solution, providing burst pressures from 0.14 barg / 2 psig. The LSR™ disk consists of a single piece all metal construction designed for non-fragmentation, as a result of BS&B’s patented proprietary score design. The geometry of the disk has been optimized to provide a high flow area for pressure relief. The minimal use of raw material provides important sustainability benefits to the user both at time of purchase and at the end of product service life.

The RC™ Series Low-Pressure Disk

From DN200 (8”) up to DN1000 (40”), the BS&B RC™ series of rupture disks offer burst pressures as low as 0.05 barg / 0.7 psig, while benefiting from the advantages of reverse buckling technology. The RC™ series has a 2-layer construction: one smooth solid metal seal on the process side and a perforated support membrane of much thicker material on the downstream side.

Both new rupture disk models, LSR™ and RC™ series, embrace all the established operational & performance preferences of the STA-SAF® system that were formerly limited to higher burst pressures:

  2. Suitable for operating pressure to 90% of the minimum burst pressure
  3. Designed for non-fragmentation
  4. Vacuum* and back pressure resistance
  5. Damage safety ratio ≤ 1

* RC series rupture disks having a burst pressure below 0.5 bar g may provide partial vacuum resistance – verify with BS&B

Until now, rupture disk technology for low pressure service (typically below 0.5 barg) has relied upon forward-acting (multi-layer) composite disks. These are more sensitive to fatigue or corrosion and have lower operating pressure limits of 60% to 75% of burst pressure. Most composite disks also use plastic seals in their construction which are more sensitive to thermal and mechanical conditions than metal. With the LSR™ and RC™ series rupture disks, fully metallic application solutions are now available. This reverse buckling disk technology supports higher levels of service performance resulting typically in a significantly extended service life.
